New hotness from half of Mellowhype. Swag.

Stream it here.

New Zealand’s lo-fi pysch pop response to Tame Impala. Highly recommend the entire album. That is all.

WHAT?! Oh helllllll yes!

Listen to the track here!

Oh man. Gloss Drop has leaked and I have no way of putting it on my ipod.

Either way: Battles + Boredoms = Win. [ Battledom? Borttles?]

I have a love/bored relationship with The Misfits.  I love theatrical punk, but sometimes those guys got hung up in “being The Misfits” and the music would suffer tremendously. Recently, Heather has been bouncing ol’ classics off me and it reminded me how much I like their early Danzig stuff [Static Age fucking owns as far as I'm concerned]. I guy I knew years ago introduced me some of their deeper cuts, and my favorite BY FAR is this old demo tape cut of She. Yes, there is no guitar. Yes, Danzig is rocking an electric piano. Yes, this version is kinds of lo-fi amazing. Kinda makes you wonder what The Misfits would have been if they never added guitar and went this route. Would they have been the American Joy Division, but horror punk? What would Where Eagles Dare or Last Caress sounded like with the same set up? I can only dream…

I can’t explain why this works, but it does.

Two killer tracks were released yesterday: Mind Killa and Can’t Keep Johnny Down. I decided to post both at once. Mad props if you know why these two are paired together.

Sorry for no track yesterday [ Kel Loves Orange Soda jam aside, of course]. I was caught in the middle of a show bender which concluded last night with a band that are without a doubt my musical heroes: The Residents. I’m not saying that they are “my favorite” or “an obessession” but they are definitely my personal heroes. These guys have been making music for 40 years and it blows my mind how I still find myself amazed by them constantly. I slack off in following them for the most part, but these guys are a like a massive river of weird that you can hop in and out of at any point and just enjoy the ride. For anyone who is unfamiliar with The Residents I would relish the opportunity to sit down and talk to you about them. I could talk about these guys all day [seriously, I wrote a paper about them in high school which was in the days of DIAL UP, mind you]. John would attend as well.

I’m REALLY picky about my mash-ups. Mainly because 90% of mash-ups are pure shite. However… this kinda owns.

Okay, I’m just being a dick. The band is School of Seven Bells [not my abbreviation, but clever nonetheless].

I keep drifting back to this album, Alpinisms, on a regular basis. Lately, I’ve been all over the map musically [big Odd Future/Cut Copy/Gil-Scott Heron kick as of late - it works, trust me], but I find I can’t scroll past “S” without listening at LEAST to “Half Asleep” and “My Cabal.” Both songs have that blissed out synth sound I love and despite the “90s female lead harmonies” this album is my cup of tea. That said, Disconnect from Desire is a better album. Yes, I make no sense.
